Shelters represent an essential service for survivors of violence as part of a comprehensive and coordinated response to violence against women (VAW).
In this context, and as part of Sudan’s national efforts to combat VAW and protect women survivors of violence, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security in the Republic of Sudan organized a webinar series titled “Best Practices and Shared Experiences on Shelters for Women Survivors of Violence”.
The webinars aim to provide the Sudanese Ministry of Welfare and Social Security and other beneficiaries with the knowledge on available norms and tools for addressing violence against women and implementing a holistic and survivor-centred approach to shelter provision. They also provided the opportunity to share examples from Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia in establishing shelters.
The webinars were held through a series of two-hour sessions over a period of three days 25, 26 and 27 August 2020 via Microsoft Teams, and included participants representing both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders.
