The ESCWA Statistical Committee, at its eleventh session in 2015, committed to forming a technical advisory group (TAG) on demographic and social statistics. The main goal of the TAG is to provide recommendations on strategies, as well as substantive and methodological guidelines, for achieving statistical goals. The TAG has held three meetings.
The fourth meeting covers an evaluation of achievements and analysis of progress in bridging the data gap in the fields specified during the previous sessions. A specialized session relates to reviewing indicators. Proposing solutions to the obstacles to crucial data collection that national statistics offices in the region are facing, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, is a key focus.
