Amman to Host the Launching of the National Campaign On Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance

In cooperation with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDC) in Jordan, UN-HABITAT-Amman, the Arab Towns Organization (ATO), and Habitat International Coalition (HIC), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) is launching “The National Campaign on Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance” through a workshop to be held in Al Hussein Cultural Center, Amman, Jordan, on 20-21 October 2007. The workshop comes in line with the Regional Campaign on Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance launched by ESCWA in 2003, to promote sustainable urban development. It will provide a platform for all national and local partners to be familiarized with the national campaign priorities and objectives, discuss the action plan phases and activities as per the regional campaign's framework, and agree on the implementation steps and monitoring, evaluation and follow-up procedures. Participants in the event will include all Arab countries who have already adopted the Regional Campaign, and those who have welcomed it, in addition to national and regional offices of concerned UN agencies, local authorities, civil society organizations, think tanks, regional and international donors, and media representatives.
