The use of emerging technologies – such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and extended reality, metaverse, mobile video chat, eye control and robotics – in enhancing accessibility is promising. However, more efforts are needed to deploy such technologies to improve the lives of older persons and persons with disabilities in the Arab region.
On 27 February, ESCWA organized a consultative meeting on advancing e-accessibility through new and emerging technologies in Amman, Jordan. The meeting aimed to present and discuss e-accessibility through new and emerging technologies, as well as a draft technical paper offering insight and recommendations on the matter.
Also, on 26 February, ESCWA held a meeting to discuss the “Technical guidelines on e-accessibility for older persons”, a draft paper that offers guidance on the design of accessible digital products for older persons.
