Migration, Displacement and Development in a Changing Arab Region

Beirut, 12 January 2016 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)--The 2015 Situation Report on International Migration entitledMigration, Displacement and Development in a Changing Arab Regionwill be jointly launched by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Thursday January the 14th 2016, at 10:00 am, at the UN House, Beirut.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, as well as by IOM Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Carmela Godeau.

At a time when migration and displacement have reached record numbers, this report aims to provide a comprehensive update on the situation in order to facilitate the development of appropriate responses to various patterns of migration. Drawing on the expertise of the member agencies of the Working Group on International Migration in the Arab Region, the Report highlights the need for coordinated and holistic responses to current migration and displacement challenges.

The Report was prepared under the aegis of the Working Group on International Migration in the Arab Region, co-chaired by ESCWA and IOM and comprising of further 12 United Nations agencies, which have worked together in order to examine the plight of migrants and refugees in the current political, social and economic context of the region.
