Social Expenditure Monitoring

Participants sitting in the meeting

On 1 and 2 December, ESCWA, UNDP, and UNICEF held a regional expert meeting to discuss the draft chapters of their joint Social Expenditure Monitoring report, considered as the first in the region to analyze results and major trends of social expenditure for Arab States.

In a related context, ESCWA held from 28 to 30 November a national workshop in Jordan to launch the Social Expenditure Monitor, a tool to support budgeting and fiscal policy reforms.

Participants examined the challenges of public spending in Jordan amid the COVID-19 pandemic, important trends and patterns of social spending and the relevance of policies to the budget.
