Term:
Access to paid employment
Definition:

Equal access to employment must be guaranteed to women and men workers before and during the hiring process. According to Convention No. 183, pregnancy and maternity should not constitute a source of discrimination in access to employment, and member States should take appropriate measures to ensure this. Convention No. 156 calls for the right of workers with family responsibilities to engage in employment without discrimination, to free choice of employment, and training and guidance to promote their access to employment. Recommendation No. 165 expands on these principles.
