ESCWA is co-organizing seven events at the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12) in Cairo, highlighting critical aspects of sustainable urban development. These include five events led by the ESCWA Urban Team and two collaborative efforts with Clusters 1 and 5, covering themes such as local partnerships for impact, urban resilience, economic recovery strategies, sustainable development policy integration, and quality of life in cities. Collaborations involve key partners such as UN-Habitat, UCLG-MEWA, the Madinah Region Development Authority, and the City Diplomacy Lab.
ESCWA is also contributing as a speaker at the Morocco Pavilion, addressing urban expansion challenges while balancing growth pressures and sustainability requirements.
The participation of ESCWA in WUF12 emphasizes the critical role of local action, integrated policies, and innovative financing in achieving sustainable urban development and resilience in the Arab region.
