On 18 and 19 December, ESCWA held its 9th Executive Committee meeting in Tunis. The Committee reviewed the progress achieved in implementing the resolutions adopted at the thirty-first Ministerial Session, the activities of ESCWA centres and the reports of its subsidiary bodies and the technical cooperation activities since 2023.
Participants tackled prominent regional and international issues, including debt, water security, and worsening inequality in times of crisis. They also explored ways to advance sustainable development in light of the findings of the Arab Sustainable Development Report (ASDR 2024) and the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD). The Committee also addressed the Pact for the Future adopted by the UN General Assembly in September, and ESCWA proposed programme plan for 2026.
Additionally, the ESCWA Technical Cooperation Network held its twelfth meeting on 17 December to review developments in its activities and management and discuss member States’ priorities and concerns.
