Advanced Research Qualifications refer to tertiary programmes that lead directly to the award of an advanced research qualification, e.g., Ph.D. The theoretical duration of these programmes is three years full-time in most countries (for a cumulative total of at least seven years full-time at the tertiary level), although the actual enrolment time is typically longer. The programmes are devoted to advanced study and original research.
