ESCWA, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, provides technical support to the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity in identifying key design and implementation features of social security schemes that have successfully extended coverage to informal workers.
In this context, a peer-learning and design workshop on “Extending social insurance to irregular workers” is being organized to enable exchange and learning between representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Finance, the National Organization for Social Insurance, and government officials and practitioners from selected South American and North African institutions, as well as international organizations with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge on developing and enrolling informal workers into simplified social insurance and tax regimes.
