The link between disability and poverty is gaining increased attention at the global, regional and national levels. Despite this growing awareness, our understanding of the complex relationship between these two conditions and the underlying factors driving their connection remains limited and requires further research.
In response, ESCWA released a new policy brief entitled “Poverty and disability: interlinkages and the way forward”. The brief provides an overview of the factors influencing the interaction between poverty and disability, shedding light on the harmful cycle created by their relationship.
It also presents key policy recommendations aimed at breaking this cycle and promoting inclusive development strategies.
