The International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS) is the first international classification of crime for statistical purposes, and has far-reaching implications for crime data collection at all levels. Its implementation will improve data consistency within countries, and comparability across countries and through time.
Therefore, ESCWA, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics, in cooperation with the Tunisian National Institute of Statistics, organized a regional training on the implementation of the ICCS in the Arab region.
During the training held in Tunis from 4 to 6 July, participants from national statistical offices (NSOs), law enforcement and criminal justice institutions were introduced to the main uses of the ICCS, the benefits of using it, and the challenges faced in its implementation.
