This peer learning workshop on the effective utilization and professionalization of social workers in social protection delivery is co-organized by ESCWA and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Morocco, in collaboration with the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Development and Family (MSISF) of Morocco. The workshop facilitates learning and exchange between stakeholders from MSISF and participants from Brazil, Chile, Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt. The main lessons drawn centre around the following topics:
- Role of social workers in implementing social assistance beyond administrative functions, i.e. effective case management and interface management between citizens and government services.
- Institutional frameworks, accreditation requirements and contractual frameworks for integration of social workers into social protection delivery.
- Qualification requirements, capacity needs and performance management for social workers.
- Quantitative planning of social worker staffing levels/ratios and financing arrangements between central and local governments and private actors.
